This Privacy Policy explains how we collect and use personal data in relation to Cheeky Maths and, where relevant, our related service MarkThis, in accordance with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.

1. Our Approach to Children’s Data

Cheeky Maths is designed to minimise the collection of personal data about children. We do not require pupils to create accounts, and we do not collect or use children’s personal information for marketing or profiling purposes. Any learning-related data processed is used solely to provide the service and is never shared with third parties.

Safeguarding and data minimisation are core principles in the design of our systems.

2. Data Collected for Cheeky Maths

Cheeky Maths does not require or collect:

  • Pupil names

  • Pupil contact details

  • Assessment results

  • Attainment records

  • Special category or safeguarding data

We may process:

  • Teacher account details

  • Topics selected and worksheets generated

  • Anonymous usage statistics for system improvement

This information is not linked to identifiable pupils.

3. Data Collected for MarkThis

MarkThis is our AI marking service. For this service only, limited pupil data is required so that work can be marked and progress displayed to teachers.

We may process:

  • Pupil first names or nicknames (schools are encouraged not to use surnames)

  • Answers submitted for marking

  • Results and progress information

We do not require dates of birth, addresses, SEN status, medical information, or any other sensitive personal data. Data is used solely to provide marking, feedback, and progress tracking and to improve system accuracy. It is never used for marketing and is never sold.

4. Lawful Basis

We process data under the lawful bases of contract, legitimate interests, and public task in support of education. Schools remain the data controller. We act as a data processor.

5. Data Security

We apply appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect all data, including secure hosting, encrypted connections, and restricted staff access.

6. Data Retention

Data is retained only for as long as necessary to provide the service or as required by contractual or legal obligations. Users may request deletion of their data at any time.

7. Data Sharing

We do not sell personal data and do not share it with advertisers. Data is only shared with essential service providers under strict data processing agreements.
